will take the stage on Friday evening, September 30, 2005 during
an outdoor concert in Kiwanis Park at Old Alabama Town. A bluesman
from Aliceville, Willie King always gives the audience a good
dose of some real Alabama juke joint blues. “Thoroughly
recommended for all lovers of the real deal” by Blue Matters
Magazine, don’t miss this opportunity to hear a legendary
grass roots musician at seven o’clock.
Freedom Creek, Willie King’s debut album on Rooster Blues
Records, was King’s powerful introduction into the blues
music world. Not only was the album acclaimed by critics worldwide,
it also received awards from Living Blues Magazine for “Best
Male Artist” (2001) and “Best Contemporary Blues Album”
(2000). Willie’s juke joint musical styles and political
lyrics set him apart. Jukin’ at Bettie’s was recorded
live at what Living Blues Magazine called “one of Mississippi’s
best juke joints.” Living in a New World, King’s latest
CD, won him a W.C. Handy Award nomination for “Traditional
Blues Album of the Year” and “Blues Song of the Year”(2003).
This Alabama blues artist was also featured in Martin Scorcese’s
film Bringing It Back Home, which aired on PBS in September 2003.
King played at festivals, including Chicago Blues Festival, the
Pocono Blues Festival and the King Biscuit Festival. Most recently,
