 Living in the 19th Century
Each authentic building in Landmarks’ historic village creates its own unique image of the past. Learn about early pioneer settlements while exploring Lucas Tavern, the oldest structure on site. It was originally located on the historic Federal Road and was the resting stop on April 2, 1825 for the Marquis de LaFayette while he was touring the southeast. Visit the 1820 Log Cabin and the adjacent Pole barn. The log home is filled with the furnishings and fixtures essential to the daily life of a 19th century pioneer settlement. Educational interpreters vividly convey Central Alabama’s past as they lead you through the Corner Grocery Store, Schoolhouse, Country Doctor’s Office, Shotgun, Carriage House and the Cleveland Avenue Presbyterian Church.
