Landmarks
Foundation, a non-profit organization, develops and administers
Old Alabama Town, a unique outdoor history museum located in
downtown Montgomery, Alabama. A place where people of all ages
have fun learning about Central Alabama’s history, architecture
and lifestyles of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
A word about the tours
Tours
start from the Education and Reception Center, 301 Columbus
Street.
Columbus Street
is a one-way street, west bound. Our Educational Center is on the
corner of Columbus and North McDonough Streets. Large Vehicles (i.e.,
motor homes) should go around the block and park in our parking lot
on Columbus Street. Buses are NOT to park on any of the streets around
Old Alabama Town. Cars and vans are not to turn into the bus lane
or park in the loading area.

As in the 19th century, all of the crafts are not practiced every
day. For this reason, repeated visits to Old Alabama Town are desirable.

Living
in the 19th Century
Each authentic
building in Landmarks' historic village creates its own unique image
of the past. Learn about early pioneer settlements while exploring
Lucas Tavern, the oldest structure on site. It was originally located
on the historic Federal Road and was the resting stop on April 2,
1825 for the Marquis de LaFayette while he was touring the southeast.
Visit the 1820 Log Cabin and the adjacent pole barn. The log home
is filled with the furnishings and fixtures essential to the daily
life of a 19th century pioneer settler. Explore Central Alabama’s
past as you visit the Corner Grocery Store, Carriage House and the
Cleveland Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Working
in the 19th Century
The Old Alabama
Town Working Block offers visitors the opportunity to see how the
people of Alabama earned their living in both the rural and urban
communities. Step back to the days of our Blacksmiths, Cotton Gins,
and Grist Mills. You will also visit the Drug Store and the Print
Shop and see authentic craft demonstrations when available. The unique
outdoor history museum is a place where people of all ages have fun
learning about Central Alabama’s history, architecture and lifestyle.
